BRITA
June 2004 – December 2014
What we once enjoyed
and deeply loved
we can never lose,
for all that we love deeply
becomes
a part of us
HELEN KELLER
It is with a very heavy heart that our family said good-bye to “Brita” and released her from her failing body. There were still so many things we wished for her to experience as she was enjoying her retirement from the performance rings, however, it was not meant to be. What an amazing journey Brita and Debbie shared in those 10 1/2 short years.
Brita was the first one to crawl out of the whelping box, use her nose and end up behind Debbie’s feet in the kitchen. Her eyes were barely opened and not only did she do it once but several times. We fondly remember the look her dam, “Quantum” gave from inside the whelping box, Quantum’s neck stretched over the wall watching Brita yet again, take her route of exploration and adventure!
Brita finished her American/Canadian and UCI Championships in short order. After the 2006 Pennsylvania National, with Holley Eldred, Brita finished on the third weekend of shows. Brita would continue to be shown on a limited basis with her last outing at the 2014 Wisconsin National in the Veteran Class.
With all the training and competing, somehow, Brita and Debbie both found time for motherhood. Debbie had one special package and Brita whelped 9 special packages. Brita figured if the box was to be used once, she would make it count. Her offspring have also shown their desire to work and become loyal companions in their respective homes.
Brita shone best in the performance ring and as a team, Brita and Debbie knocked off some impressive accomplishments and garnered some impressive awards. There were some low points, however, with the encouragement of family, our trainers, close friends and competitors we broke through the many barriers to get the job done.
Brita had an insatiable desire to please. She was the UN ambassador for the pack at home and abroad. Brita exhibited an unquestionable trust in Debbie even to the end. It made our last day together and her peaceful passing difficult. Debbie and Brita were a team to the end. Their story is now complete with the final chapter closing having received her special paw print and ashes. Brita and her memories are home to stay with her family……….
